How Coinbase’s Signup Form Drives Consumer Signups

Posted byandrew.schneider639 November 2, 2021January 29, 2022

About Coinbase

Coinbase is the leading crypto wallet. They started as a consumer app for consumers to buy cryptocurrencies and have now expanded into professional as well. Let’s take a look at their consumer funnel.

Form Breakdown

  • First off, they hit you with an offer of $5 in free Bitcoin if you enter your email right in the homepage hero
  • Three knocks against them
    • They don’t ask for mobile phone, which adds friction to verify your email before getting into the product
    • They do ask for State, which adds friction and must be needed for account setup purposes
    • Most importantly, they don’t have any value props or much copy to handle objections on the form itself so they must be relying on the $5 bitcoin to motivate consumers to not abandon and complete sign up
